Kristalisasi Nilai Materialisme dalam Pembentukan Perilaku Konsumeristik di Kalangan Masyarakat Perkotaan Banda Aceh

Modern humans are now trapped in material life which is influenced by an understanding developed by Karl Marx. This materialist understanding only relies on material things and rejects all forms of thought that lead to spirituality. Attitudes of life with a materialist orientation will encourage someone to be consumptive in order to get pleasure and satisfaction. This tendency has permeated most of the world community, including the people of Banda Aceh City. This article discusses consumptive behaviors that tend to be hedonic as a result of the internalization of the values of materialism so that it ignores the socio-religious spirit in the people of Banda Aceh City. Based on field observations and interviews, this article argues that the flourishing of consumptive life behavior will encourage the emergence of denial of religious values and applicable laws so that they need to be eliminated wherever possible in order to create a healthy society from social ills.
