The Malacca fell to the Portuguese in 1511, the fall of Malacca led to a decline. The Malacca Harbor was used as a battlefield for the kingdoms around Malacca waters. Not only that, Malacca which was conquered by the Portuguese also had an impact on competition for foreign countries such as the Netherlands and England. The port of Malacca, which was once important, later became a port abandoned by its traders. As a result of the fall of Malacca, then the old trading centers reappeared, one of them Jambi. Johor also appears as a city. With the emergence of Johor as a new important city, it is also a threat to Jambi. So that around the beginning of the 17th century there was a competition for hegemony between Jambi-Johor to control trade in the sea, also became the trigger for open war (1667-1681) between the two Bandar. The purpose of this paper is to see how the condition of the Jambi people was during the open war between Jambi and Johor (1667-1681). The method used in this paper is the historical method which starts from collecting sources, criticizing sources with literature studies, interpreting them and then pouring them into written form. During the 17th century, Jambi and Johor relations were full of disputes, upheavals, and even open war. The nearly 14 year Jambi-Johor War caused setbacks and economic decline for the people of Jambi due to the enormous cost of the war.
