THE TRADITION OF THE RITUAL OF RAJAH SEUMAPA (BALEK KUNYET) AS TRADITIONAL HEALING IN THE IE BUBOH COMMUNITY, MEUKEK DISTRICT, SOUTH ACEH REGENCY

Tradisi Ritual Rajah Seumapa (Balek Kunyet) Sebagai Pengobatan Tradisional Pada Masyarakat Ie Buboh Kecamatan Meukek Kabupaten Aceh Selatan

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the tradition of the rajah seumapa ritual (balek kunyet) as a traditional medicine in the Ie Buboh Community, Meukek District, South Aceh Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of field observations, interviews and documentation. The data collection technique using unstructured interviews using interview guidelines, then using observations conducted by anecdotal methods. The data analysis techniques used in this study are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The subjects in this study consisted of 3 rajah seumapa handlers, keuchik and also 11 general public in Ie Buboh Village. The results of this study indicate that Rajah seumapa is a traditional treatment method and is a cultural heritage from ancestors that must be preserved, rajah seumapa can be done anytime and anywhere and can only be done by someone who has special expertise in curing seumapa diseases. Symptoms of seumapa are headaches, body heat and weakness, stomach ache. There are also some who feel the symptoms of seumapa are the same as the symptoms of spirit pain that greeted them in their lifetime. The ingredients used are turmeric and lime, accompanied by the recitation of verses from the Quran and mantras over the ingredients. The people of Ie Buboh still perform the rajah seumapa ritual despite the availability of modern medicine. They also believe that seumapa can only be cured through the rajah seumapa ritual.
