The phenomenon of religious conversion has become increasingly prominent in the era of religious freedom, marked by globalization, pluralism, and the growing recognition of individual rights to determine spiritual beliefs. This article explores the dynamics of religious conversion in Indonesia—a nation characterized by high religious diversity—using a qualitative case study approach. The findings indicate that conversion is driven by internal factors such as the search for meaning in life and personal spiritual experiences, as well as external influences including social pressure, interfaith marriages, and exposure to more inclusive religious communities. Although religious freedom creates space for more authentic spiritual exploration, individuals who convert often face social challenges such as stigma, familial rejection, and discrimination. These findings underscore the importance of understanding conversion as a reflective process situated withincomplex social contexts, and the need for more inclusive and empathetic approaches in responding to changes in religious belief within multicultural societies.
