Abstract

Religious conversion is a phenomenon that often occurs in Indonesia, where individuals move from one religion to another due to various factors. This religious conversion not only touches the spiritual aspect, but also has significant social and psychological impacts on individuals and their environment. This study aims to explore in depth the factors and processes of religious conversion, its impact on individuals and society, as well as the response of society and the government regarding this phenomenon. The research method used is qualitative-descriptive through literature study with a psychology of religion approach. The results show that religious conversion is influenced by several factors, such as divine guidance, social, and psychological factors. The conversion process does not occur instantly, but through several stages, namely the period of calm, insecurity, conversion, calm and peaceful, and the period of expression of conversion. This conversion has a major impact on spiritual activities, daily habits, and individual perspectives as well as social challenges such as family rejection and ostracization. Although religious conversion is guaranteed by the Declaration of Human Rights and Indonesian law, individuals who convert still face significant challenges and social pressures. However, the role of the religious community in guiding the convert, as well as the spiritual coping mechanisms used by the individual, can be a positive support in the adaptation process of the new faith. Therefore, wisdom is needed from the community, religious leaders, and the government to make conversion a part of the dynamics of religion in Indonesia.
